Dr Matt Salamonsen (MBBS BMedSci FRACP PhD)
Interventional Pulmonologist

Dr Salamonsen completed his specialist medical training in respiratory medicine in Melbourne, Victoria, before moving to Brisbane to complete a PhD on pleural interventions, and then travelling to Barcelona, Spain for an interventional bronchoscopy fellowship. Apart from working at Murdoch Chest, he also holds a position as lead in interventional pulmonology at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch, WA.

He is actively involved in research with current projects on transbronchial lung cryobiopsy for the investigation of interstitial lung disease and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) elastography.

Prof Peter Bremner (MD, FRACP, MBChB)
Respiratory Physician

Professor Peter Bremner is a well established respiratory physician who has been providing specialist respiratory consultation to the greater Perth region for more than 20 years. He currently runs a busy clinical practice, including a pulmonary function testing service, from The Wexford Medical Centre at St John of God Murdoch and has particular interests in pulmonary malignancy, airways disease and pulmonary hypertension.

The thoracic cancer, interventional and surgical services of Murdoch Chest compliment those already provided, and both practices will continue to operate together.

Professor Bremner is actively involved in clinical research with the Western Respiratory Trials Service, and teaching at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels.  He is the inaugural Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Notre Dame University.

Dr Ranjan Shrestha (MBBS FCCP FRACP)
Respiratory Physician and Pleural Disease Specialist

Dr Shrestha is a Respiratory physician with a special interest in pleural disease.  He graduated in medicine with honours from Kathmandu University, Nepal in 2000 and after working briefly in the UK, moved to Perth to complete specialist training in internal and respiratory medicine.  After being awarded his FRACP in 2012, he undertook an additional training fellowship in pleural disease.

Apart from working at Murdoch Chest, he also holds a position as a general respiratory physician at Fiona Stanley Hospital, providing consultation on all aspects of respiratory disease.  Dr Shrestha is actively involved in a number of international clinical pleural trials involving patients with malignant pleural disease, pleural infection and pneumothorax.  He is also a convener of practical pleural courses run through CTEC, UWA every year.

Mr Sanjay Sharma (MBBS UWA, FRACS, Cardiothoracic Fellow Harvard Medical School)
Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Mr Sharma is a medical graduate of The University of Western Australia with specialist qualification as a cardiothoracic surgeon.  He completed further post fellowship training in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery at Brigham And Women’s Hospital, Boston, Harvard Medical School.

Upon returning to Perth in 2003 he joined the Fremantle Hospital Cardiothoracic program becoming the Head of Department for the last three years before its amalgamation at Fiona Stanley Hospital.  He has established a thoracic surgery service at Murdoch Hospital and now performs regular weekly lists with a special interest in minimally invasive surgery.

He also has a keen interest in hyperhidrosis surgery and mediastinal disease.

Mr Chris Merry (MBBS, LLM, FRACS, FAMA)
Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Mr Chris Merry is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Fiona Stanley Hospital, St John of God Murdoch, St John of God Subiaco and The Mount Private Hospital.  He holds a fellowship from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in Cardiothoracic surgery and has a Masters in Health and Medical Law from Melbourne University.  In addition, he is Supervisor of Surgical Training at Fiona Stanley, and holds the position of senior lecturer at Notre Dame University and Murdoch University.

Mr Merry has a special interest in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, having spent time in Copenhagen, Denmark training in these techniques
